I used to use a regular flashlight to get a peek at their activities but it bothered them a bit, this flashlight though does not! Like the fact that it has a "zooming" feature for the light throw, allows me to see the babies when they are climbing the trees and not have the light too intense when they are outside the bedroom window playing in the bushes.

   I was genuinely impressed with this!! Sturdy and very bright! I bought this because I have a newborn and hate turning on obnoxious blinding overhead lights when he wakes up. I truly believe this, combined with red ambient lighting in evening helps sleep. There is plenty of evidence for that with respect to circadian rhythm, melatonin, etc. This also preserves details in the dark, which has historically been their use in navigation/ship/aviation settings... It is also less likely to be seen at a distance (good for the woods in the cover of darkness if you're a solider for instance... Or submarine periscope).

It also will alert you of any animals without startling them. Great for watching nocturnal animals in my back yard. It has a slide adjustment to go from narrow to wide beam.    I wanted a small light for hog hunting at night. This one is perfect since it immediately turns on and off without cycling through white or any strobe etc. The beam can be narrowly focused and illuminates objects at least one hundred yards away or widened to cast a broad and much less intense beam...all from a single AA battery. With a night scope it helps visibility to at least 300 yards. I had intended to use it with binoculars for scanning for hogs and am sure it will work great for that, or simply using it by itself to cause eyes to reflect. I didn't realize how well made and sturdy the light is. As a test I used a mount I already had and it mounts perfectly to my rifle with almost no felt weight. Hopefully the recoil will not cause the light damage. For an inexpensive light it is great. Just ordered two more.

   When using telescopes 8" or larger to look at deep sky objects such as nebulae and galaxies, night vision is essential. Red is the right color of light for doing this. This light has an adjustable beam and works great for astronomy when set to wide beam. The narrow beam can be seen several hundred feet away. Another big plus is that it works perfect with a rechargeable AA battery. It is slightly dimmer with a rechargeable battery but the light is still more that bright enough. It looks and feels durable and I expect that it will last for many years.
