I've used it for browned butter and melting chocolate over a double boiler. With the butter, there was a lot of splashing even on the lowest speed. With the chocolate, the stirrer wasn't as free to move because it was "sunk" at the bottom of a bowl and seemed to leave some unstirred chocolate in the center. Both times, I popped the bottom off and threw it in the dishwasher - it cleaned up spectacularly. I don't see the need for the timer - I wasn't away from the stirrer & was watching it with an external timer anyway.
This is a great product, I gifted it to my sister who has absolutely everything. She has a well-stocked kitchen but she didn't have this! It was a great open and she was so excited to use it that she opened it up that day to help with making christmas day dinner.
Sometimes when cooking, you need more than 2 hands. WhenI first saw the Automatic Pan Stirrer with Timer, I thought it was a great idea, but probably wouldn't work. Much to to the families surprise and delight, not only did the Automatic Pan Stirrer and timer work, but it worked well. So much so, that we purchased another Automatic Pan Stirrer for a friend. When in doubt . . . try it out!
